A beginner rider curriculum
The result, in numbers.
The problem
I teach beginner western riding on Fridays. The barn has its own guidelines on pace, but no lesson structure and no planning to run a session on, no written progression, no student materials and no way for a parent to see what their child had learned. So the program is self created: it was on me to build it, for the students in front of me.
How it works
- 01
Progress
An eight level progression, each level earned with its own cattle brand.
- 02
Journal
Two age-based rider journals, built around three end of lesson questions.
- 03
Teach
24 instructor lesson plans with teach steps, fixes and a game each session.
- 04
Check
80 skill checks across the eight levels, signed off per session.
- 05
Log
An instructor app that logs lessons against the progression on real records.
